Bootleg from Holland featuring amazing live material recorded by Frank Zappa's long time electric violin players at the Berlin Jazz Festival, Germany, November 1971. The songs on side A were officially released on Don Harris' LP Sugar Cane's Got The Blues (recorded on 5th of November), the tracks on side B were officially released on the double LP New Violin Summit II (recorded on 7th of November), however: this LP originates from an alternate master, since there are some unreleased bits! (see track comments) Also, the sound is somewhat warmer and, I believe, mono. All tracks (except no. 2) run slightly too slow.
The musicians are...
Don "Sugar Cane" Harris: violin Volker Kriegel: guitar Wolfgang Dauner: keyboards, electronic devices Neville Whitehead: bass Robert Wyatt ("Soft Machine"): drums
Track 3 also features Gypsy violinist Nipso Brantner and Terje Rypdal plays the guitar instead of Volker Kriegel.
Track 4 is an unaccompanied violin solo by Jean-Luc Ponty (over 3 minutes longer than the released version). |
